"Golf Course Accessories"
Standard Golf Company is located in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and was founded in 1910 by Walter Voorhees. Originally called Standard Manufacturing Company, it produced steel farm gates, ornamental gates and other diverse products including cistern covers, street signs, boat docks, wagon tongues and automatic hog waterers. In 1921 the city of Cedar Falls built its first nine hole golf course. At that time no company offered a complete standardized line of golf course accessories, so in 1925 Voorhees decided to add golf course equipment to Standard’s product line. “The idea struck me” he said, “that here was a field for an alert manufacturer. Why not develop a complete line of needs in this field? A standard line. Why not develop a product so good that it would be in demand all over the United States?”
Over the years golf course equipment became an increasingly important part of Standard’s business. Today, Standard Golf is the world’s leading manufacturer of golf course accessories, and its products are sold by over 250 distributors on six continents. In June of 1992, a fire destroyed the original buildings which housed the company since 1910. Shortly thereafter, the company began construction of a new 100,000 square foot building in the Cedar Falls Industrial Park which it occupies today. Walter Voorhees named his sons, Robert and Maynard as President and Vice President respectively, after his retirement in 1956. The company is currently owned by Robert’s son, Peter E. Voorhees, making him the third generation of Voorhees to actively manage the company.
"Engineered Metal Casting Technology"
As global metal prices continue to rise, FusionCast provides an alternative to traditional foundry produced cast bronze, aluminum or copper signage. Our patent-pending technology “fuses” metal with high-density urethane (HDU) at the molecular level. We put metal at the front of a sign where it can be seen and touched and gradually introduce HDU towards the back where it provides a hard impervious substrate. The result is a metal sign that looks and feels like a foundry poured sign but without the weight and high production costs (see video entitled: Welcome to FusionCast). But those aren’t the only benefits contributing to our growing presence on golf courses, historical buildings, dedications, businesses, upscale homes & cottages, and more…
Golf Pride® was founded in 1949 by the resourceful Thomas L. Fawick, an industrialist and inventor from Cleveland, Ohio, who also happened to be a golf enthusiast. Fawick, inventor of the pneumatic clutch and brake, came upon the notion — quite by coincidence — that rubber might be a superior alternative to leather for golf grips, by providing a more secure and durable gripping surface. Eager to get his new concept moving, Fawick immediately entered into a manufacturing agreement with the Akron, Ohio—based Westgate Rubber Company, which was owned by two men of uncommon talent and foresight, Bill Junker and Jim Karns. Early on the trade name “Golf Pride” was chosen, inspired by the name of a popular motor oil of the time, “Gulf Pride.”
Today, Golf Pride boasts 80 percent usage at virtually every level of major, professional, and amateur competition; and you’ll find grips made by Golf Pride on nearly every new club sold today. Simply put, Golf Pride is the number one grip in golf.
